Meg
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Trauma Professional (CTP).
My approach to therapy is grounded in helping create a space for you to navigate life. You deserve to be seen in your pain and joy, to have your growth be witnessed, and to have support from someone who understands the complex nature of being a human. If it makes sense for you, I will utilize key components of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), such as labeling distorted thought patterns, helping slow down thoughts through wise mind and mindfulness work, and incorporate values work. But overall, my style is tailored to your needs.
I incorporate somatic healing into treatment since our bodies hold information that we may not be consciously aware of. This means that I help your body and feelings connect through body awareness, gentle movement, and mindfulness to increase regulation, healing, and release of traumatic pain.
I will meet you where you are today - wherever that may be - this is a space for you to grow and heal.
HI THERE, I'M
working with me is like...
I believe healing happens through connection with someone who truly cares. I am constantly looking for ways to connect with you and make you feel safe and empowered. I will view you holistically and especially consider your upbringing, cultural background, and spiritual identity, among other important factors. I can help you get in touch with your emotions, communicate clearly, reclaim your power and voice, and re-process traumatic experiences. As a counselor, I desire to provide a safe place for you to express yourself, reach your potential, and connect with yourself and others.
Counseling with me is relaxed and conversational. My favorite part about my job is being trusted with the vulnerabilities in my clients' lives.
my background
I received my Master's degree from Northern Illinois University (NIU) while interning at SamaraCare Counseling and the Counseling Center at NIU, where I provided support through a trauma-informed lens, focusing on conveying empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. I have worked within the private practice setting since 2022, serving clients of all backgrounds.
I have specific training in Trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), sexual, physical, and psychological abuse, and those who have emotionally immature parents. I also work with Anxiety, Depression, Chronic Illness, Family Conflict, Grief, Borderline Personality Disorder, Life Transitions, Women’s Issues, and Spirituality.
For those seeking a deeper connection to their spiritual side, I offer to explore different aspects of your spirituality, allowing you to align with your beliefs and faith. While I have the most experience working with Christians, I have worked successfully with those ascribing to Buddhism, Hinduism, Wicca, Islam, Agnosticism, and Atheism. I work best with clients who come to sessions with content, reflections, and insight that they are motivated to process. I work with ages 18+.
